INDEPENDENTLY

Creative Ideas for Living Independently

Kitsune was founded to help people with disabilities who fall through the cracks of receiving services. Our group is composed of family members of young adults on the autistic spectrum or with learning delays, two landlords, a retired lawyer, a member of another local nonprofit group, and two professionals who provide services to the disabled in Frederick county. From experiences with family and others in our lives, the founders of Kitsune formed a plan to address some of the needs of those who fall through the cracks.

Searchable Resource List

When we first publicized the Kitsune ideas for independent living, we received questions we could not answer about services we are not providing. This is the state of mind for people needing help to live/work within the care system—look everywhere, ask everyone within reach. From this the Kitsune board took a common tool of an FAQ list on our website, to a searchable database of resources that is free to use for anyone. The scope of care resources is and will continue to be expanded beyond neurodivergence (Autism, et. al.) because care issues do not have tidy boundaries or Venn-diagrammable limits.

Kitsune Life Skills Resources is the database that we, the Kitsune founders, wish we had when we were raising our neurodiverse kids. It is intended to take some of the pressure off the search for answers. Rather than a web search netting 30 – 30,000 super “helpful” pages for further sorting, we are curating a list of pertinent organizations. We do not endorse any organization. There is no sign-up or collection of visitor data (other than geolocation for gaining an understanding of areas in need of resources), and visitors can suggest a resource using a form located below the scrolling list of resources.

Scope of Disabilities & Support

Kitsune’s primary mission is to find creative solutions for independent living for adults with developmental disabilities, but without intellectual disabilities. There are many individuals who can live independently with a bit of back up, someone to call when our society gets too complicated. We have designed a plan for independent living with on site support.
